A LIFE WITH THE BANJO

It all started, in the port of Rotterdam, with my grandfather who was in charge of unloading ships. It was  during the american prohibition that he met an American sailor interested in trading his tenor banjo for a bottle of dutch genever .  I found this banjo in his closet when I was 11 years old, and after blowing off the dust, began teaching myself how to play. A few years later I switched to plectrum and 5-string banjo, eventually choosing plectrum banjo as my main instrument.

After my studies and some jobs, I decided to turn my hobby and love into my profession, and I've been playing in string bands (ragtime, blues, country, calypso) and early jazz combos ever since. I also love teaching banjo to those who want to learn.
